Big Bass Splash Review
Part of the Big Bass series |
---|
Big Bass Splash is a high-variance 5×3 slot with 10 paylines. Its high RTP at 96.71% makes it an attractive go-to slot among seasonal players. |
Big Bass Splash Symbols and Payouts
Let’s start our review with the basics. We’ll take a look at the game’s basic mechanics, including its symbols, paylines, payouts, RTP and volatility, maximum win amount, and autoplay functions.
Game Symbols
Players familiar with the Big Bass series will recognize most of the Big Bass Splash symbols. The only new symbol is the Mega-Truck, as the Fishing Rod, Dragonfly, Bait/Tackle Box, and Fish symbols all return alongside the usual A-K-Q-J-10 playing cards. A Fisherman symbol and a Hooked Bass symbol make up the game’s Wild and Scatter symbols, respectively (more on those further down in our review).
Number of Paylines
Big Bass Splash, similar to its predecessors, features 10 fixed paylines on a standard 3 rows by 5 reels board. Paylines are activated when matching symbols cross at least the first three adjacent reels of the payline, left to right. The Mega-Truck symbol, though, also pays on the first two reels. It is a typical and familiar setup for players, whether they have played any of the games in the Big Bass series or not.
Payouts
The Mega-Truck symbol is the highest-paying symbol of the game and the only one to have the added odds of matching on the first two reels. The Fishing Rod symbol is the second highest-paying symbol, followed by the Dragonfly and Bait/Tackle Box, which both payout the same amounts. The Fish symbol pays the fourth-highest, followed by the A and K at the same amount, and then finally, the Q, J, and 10 all pay out the least.
Min/Max bet
The minimum and maximum bets for Big Bass Splash remain consistent with those of its predecessors: $0.10 minimum and $250 maximum. This maximum amount is quite high and accommodates deep pockets and high rollers well. However, the minimum could still be smaller to accommodate more players.
RTP and Volatility
With Big Bass Splash, Pragmatic Play has produced a game incredibly similar to the others in the series, and, like those others, Big Bass Splash’s 96.71% RTP is a high one. Big Bass Splash’s volatility is also high. Theoretically, the game pays and pays big, but players must be patient to get there.
Maximum Win
Where Big Bass Splash really starts to distinguish itself within the Big Bass series is with its maximum win amount, which is the highest the series has ever produced. This works to satisfy a common criticism the series had faced from players in the past, that the max win amount was not high enough. Here, with Big Bass Splash, the series offers its first 5,000x win amount, which most players will find quite respectable. Players can win a massive $1.25 million at the game with its high max-bet amount.
Autoplay
Big Bass Splash’s autoplay functions are easy to operate and fairly flexible. Autoplay is activated with a button under the spin button. Pressing the button will pop up a menu giving players the option to:
- Select the number of spins (up to 1,000) to automatically play.
- Turn on the Turbo Spin function (spinning the reels in unison and stopping them immediately), or turn on the Quick Spin function (stopping the reels almost immediately after spinning).
- Turn on the Skip Screens function to auto-skip the introduction and end screens to Big Bass Splash’s special feature round.
Big Bass Splash Special Features
The base game is enjoyable and includes some decent wins, but Big Bass Splash is best when the feature round is activated. As our review explains below, the feature round triggers the Wild and Money symbols and offers a plethora of ways for players to win— and this is usually when players win the biggest at the game. The Scatter symbol, though, is what gets players into the feature round, so we’ll start there.
Scatter symbol
The Hooked Bass symbol stands as the game’s Scatter symbol. It activates the Free Spins feature round if 3 or more symbols appear anywhere on the board:
- Three Hooked Bass will yield 10 free spins
- Four will yield 15 free spins
- Hooked Bass symbols will yield 20 free spins.
If two Hooked Bass symbols appear on the board, there is a chance those symbols will drop down and hold to the board while the remaining reels spin for a chance to hit the third Scatter symbol. Similarly, a hook may reach down and pull up a reel to reveal a third Scatter symbol. These occurrences happen completely randomly and are not guaranteed when two Hooked Bass appear.
Money symbols
When the Free Spins round is activated, the Fish symbols’ money values (which are based on a multiple of the player’s bet amount) are also activated. If a Wild symbol appears, the player wins the money amounts on any Fish symbols appearing on the board.
Wild symbol
The Fisherman symbol stands as the game’s Wild but is only active during the Free Spins feature round. It can appear on any reel and can work to complete any other symbol’s payline.
The Fisherman symbol also collects money from any Money symbols appearing on the same board during the Free Spins round, which significantly increases players’ winnings.
Wild symbols are also collected during the Free Spins round. A progressive feature within the Free Spins feature, Fisherman symbols are collected, and every fourth Fisherman that hits the board reactivates the Free Spins feature, awards 10 more free spins, and graduates the value of the Money symbols up one level. Each level of the progressive feature adds a multiplier (2x for level 2, 3x for level 3, and 10x for level 4) to the value of the Money symbols during the Free Spins round.
Free Spins
As stated above, three or more Scatter symbols appearing anywhere on the board activate the Free Spins feature. When this occurs, modifiers are randomly selected for the feature round:
- The More Fish modifier will add Fish symbols to the reels for the round.
- The More Fisherman modifier will add more Wild symbols to the reels for the round.
- The +2 Spins modifier adds 2 free spins to the round and any retrigger.
- The Level 2 modifier starts the round at Level 2 of the progressive feature for the Money symbols.
- The More Dynamite, Hooks, and Bazooka modifiers will increase the odds of these very random events:
1- When a Wild appears without Money symbols, dynamite may appear to blast the board, revealing Money symbols in places they previously weren’t.
2- Similarly, a Bazooka symbol can arrive to change symbols if there are no Money symbols when a Wild appears.
3- When Money symbols appear without a Wild, a hook can appear to pull up a reel to reveal a Wild.
Up to five of the modifiers can be awarded for the Free Spins round. The animation for this is fun, with the fisherman fishing, yanking up as many modifiers as fish as possible before pulling up an anchor.
The Free Spins round adds some of the best excitement and biggest ways to win that Big Bass Splash offers. Players can also buy the Free Spins round for 100x their bet.
Big Bass Splash Graphics and Sound
Our Big Bass Splash review turns to the graphics and sound of the game. As with previous games in the Big Bass series, the reels are set within the water, air bubbles rising through the water serving as the reels’ dividers. Upbeat music plays, lead by a strummed ukelele and slamming snare drum, with a Caribbean feel. Seagulls caw in the background, and the sound of drips of water can be heard as the reels spin into place. When the Free Spins feature round is activated, a banjo takes over, and the dynamics of the music increase, accentuating the excitement of the feature round. It’s a similar atmosphere to other games in the Big Bass series, which works well.

Big Bass Splash Mobile Experience
Big Bass Splash offers a fantastic mobile experience that is arguably better than playing on a desktop computer. The vertically oriented screen on the mobile allowed for a more organized design than the comparably squished horizontally oriented version on the desktop. Moreover, the mobile version allows players to unlock the spin button to place it anywhere they prefer, which is handy for players wanting to play one-handed on the mobile phone.

Players cannot seem to get enough of Pragmatic Play’s Big Bass series, and Big Bass Splash certainly delivers for game fans. While there are no visible improvements to the graphics or revolutions to the gameplay, Big Bass Splash delivers the fun with its high RTP, engaging special feature round, mobile experience, and big win potential.
